A man fatally shot two people and injured a third at a Wisconsin apartment complex on Saturday, then opened fire on responding police before apparently turning the gun on himself, officials said.
The people were apparently shot in multiple incidents at the complex in Deer Park at just after 10 a.m., police said.
Cops responded to a report of “possible victim in the parking lot” of the complex shortly after 10 a.m., police Chief Peter Nimmer said at a press conference on Saturday afternoon.
A 31-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were killed in the shooting, which officials said appears to have started as a domestic dispute between two people, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
A 36-year-old man was shot in the leg and may have already been released from the hospital, Nimmer said.
The shooter opened fire at cops from the second floor. No officers were hurt but a police K-9 squad car was hit, Nimmer said. Police believe the shooter died from suicide.
“No officer from our department or any other department returned fire,” Nimmer said at the press conference. The K-9 was not struck.
The suspect was taken into custody before he was hospitalized and later pronounced dead.
A child who was in the apartment at the time of the shooting was unharmed and is now with family members, police said.
At least two of the people involved knew each other. Nimmer said identities of the victims and suspect will be released in the next 24 hours pending family notifications.
